Canada and Guadeloupe seek first points in Gold Cup
Canada and Guadeloupe will shoot for their first win in the CONCACAF Gold Cup at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, tonight.
The Canadians lost to the United States 0-2 in their opening Group C match while Guadeloupe was defeated by Panama 2-3.
Despite the loss, the Canadians are happy with their performance against the Americans.
"There was a lot of good stuff despite the end result," forward Simeon Jackson told canadasoccer.com.
"We have to put that game behind us now and focus on the next one. We need to continue moving forward. It will come."
Midfielder Atiba Hutchinson, meanwhile, bared their game plan against Guadeloupe.
"We just want to be more organized and confident on the ball and make the right decisions when we get into the final third of the pitch," he said.
The Canucks are not taking Guadeloupe lightly as they have lost to the French territory in the group stage of the 2007 Gold Cup.
That shocking win gives the Gwada Boys confidence ahead of tonight's match. Guadeloupe trailed Panama by three goals at the hour mark but the squad scored two goals in the final 30 minutes despite being reduced to 10 men. Back-to-back goals from Brice Jovial in the 65th and 78th minutes gave Panamanian fans a scare at the Ford Field in Detroit.
